Gruyere Farm is a soulful retreat in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, thoughtfully reviving the original 1986 John Pizzey home in collaboration with interior stylist Simone Haag. Nestled in native bushland, the renovation honours the home’s mid-century roots while introducing contemporary refinement—layering natural textures, vintage pieces, and sustainable upgrades to create a light-filled sanctuary that embodies modern rural living.
Restraint, authenticity, and a deep connection to place guided the design process. Textural materials like recycled timber, slate, terrazzo, and raw brass echo the rugged landscape, while upgrades such as double-glazed windows and hydronic heating enhance performance without compromising character. The interiors reflect the clients’ well-travelled life, blending vintage and contemporary pieces with quiet elegance.
Local makers crafted custom tiles, lighting, and furniture tailored to the site, reinforcing a sense of individuality and place. Every intervention—from the sunken lounge to bespoke detailing—was designed to foster connection and calm, ensuring the new work feels as though it has always belonged.
The result is a timeless, tactile home that feels deeply personal—restored with care, grounded in its environment, and quietly luxurious.
